Top Moments from The Meadows Festival

Food Vendors at every Turn:
The festival was home to 4 stages, Queens Blvd, Shea, Linden & the main Meadows stage. Laid out in circular pattern, all the stages were in the center with food vendors making up the outer ring. During all day outdoor events, food and water nearby is always a good thing. And the choices were endless, from Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, to Asian and even desserts.

Open Bar in the Freeloaders VIP Section:

Hidden behind some fences and scattered between the trees, was a special Freeloaders VIP section and it lived up to its name. There were free photo booths, snack giveaways, and booze. And we aren’t just talking the watered down pre-mixed drinks on tap. There were two full fledged bars ready to serve your drink, or shot, of choice.

Pusha T Set

Pusha T: The G.O.O.D Music president hit the crowd with all his top tracks. From his Clipse classics as well My Name is My Name smash single. He closed out the show with samples from his upcoming project, King Push, and the crowd went wild for this year’s single Drug Dealers Anonymous.

Bryson Tiller: Announces new project coming soon.

After having the crowd vibe out this his breakout smash debut, the “Trap Soul” singer announced to lookout for the release of his upcoming project. “This will be my last time performing this set, because I’m gonna put out some new stuff soon.”

J.Cole taking a break from performing

Announcing his hiatus from the performance scene for a while. He plans hit the studio and focus on his upcoming projects.

Chance the Rapper: Bringing the Magnificent Coloring Book Tour to the Meadows.

Now this wasn’t your normal artist on a festival lineup performance. The meadows festival was a stop on the Magnificant Coloring Book Tour and audience members got the full tour experience. With a live band, life size puppets, and excellent execution, Chance the Rapper made this stop of his tour a full fledged production; giving the audience a show they would never forget, without even being the headliner of the night.

Chance the Rapper Coloringbook Comes to Life on Stage.

With full size puppets, characters and more, Chance took us straight into his coloring book. What seemed like a pathway to his mind, the lively, charismatic, and thought provoking show had the perfect blend of music, graphics, and story line to make this an epic production. The big and bright characters joined Chance on stage in dialogue and song, making this a show to remember.

Kanye West Cuts Show Short

Although he ended the show 15 mins early, he did give us one hell of an hour of Kanye hits! In Kanye fashion, he opened his set with fireworks that lit up the stage and ignited the crowd. He performed songs from his latest TLOP album as well as a few classics. But the big shock came after he abruptly announced the end of the show and ran off stage, mid song. The crowd was not pleased.

Later we found out he left early due to a family emergency involving his wife, Kim Kardashian. So I guess you get a pass Kanye, family first.

All in all, the inaugural Meadows Festival was a definite success and hopefully will take place again next year and be a staple in Queens and in the musical festival scene.

@Rapsody, @MyFabolousLife & More Tear Up Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival

Written, shot and edited by Camille Jay.

Dumbo transformed into a mecca for Hip Hop culture as fans gathered to celebrate music, art and history.  The 12th annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, curated by Brooklyn Bodega, was a space for audiences from all ages to come together to enjoy the art of Hip Hop and its culture in Brooklyn.

The magic stemmed from artists from various calibers performing on the same stage for the same crowd.  From old school to new school, signed and unsigned, this was a place for people who just appreciated good music.  These hip hop heads didn’t even let a little bad weather block their love for the art,  Hands still raised high and chants were at full volume as the rainstorm hovered over the stage for a little while.

This year, Wes Jackson and the Brooklyn Bodega team breathed some fresh ideas into the festival.  Through a week’s long of programs, panels, and performances, Brooklyn Hip Hop festival was an experience to get involved in, not just something to watch.

Saturday’s concert was just the last piece of the hip hop puzzle.  With acts like Dime a Duzin, Rapsody, Talib Kweli, Fabolous, and Nas, all on the same stage, you could see the young and old crowd come together for the love of music.
